With its new 408 model, PEUGEOT, one of the world’s most established automobile brands, is breaking the mold with its SUV-coded dynamic silhouette and flawless Fastback design. The new PEUGEOT 408, which was introduced to the world at the Paris Motor Show in October 2022, will gradually begin to hit the roads in the first months of 2023.
The new Peugeot 408 stands firmly on the ground with 20-inch wheels and 720 mm diameter wheels, giving confidence. Details such as the lion’s tooth design light signature at the front and the three-clawed LED taillights at the rear perfectly integrate the 408 into the Peugeot family. The Matrix LED technology used in the headlights provides high lighting performance, while at the same time allowing thin headlight designs.
The 408 has an exterior design in the form of an eye-catching Fastback body with strong SUV codes, which is unusual in the C segment. Built using the EMP2 platform, the 408 measures 4,687mm long, 1,478mm high, 1,859mm wide (with mirrors folded) and a 2,787mm wheelbase.
When we move to the interior, a very similar design to the new 308 welcomes us. All safety equipment of the vehicle can be controlled thanks to the multimedia system, which is very functional, together with the system that the company calls i-Cockpit. The vehicle has many features that will allow semi-autonomous driving.
The new Peugeot 408 is offered with two plug-in-hybrid (rechargeable hybrid) 225 e-EAT8 and Plug-in-hybrid (rechargeable hybrid) 180 e-EAT8 hybrid engines. 180 e-EAT8; PureTech gasoline engine with 150 HP and electric motor with 81 kW, while 225 e-EAT8 has 180 HP PureTech gasoline engine and 81 kW electric motor. Both plug-in hybrid engines transfer their power to the front wheels via an EAT8 8-speed automatic transmission.
Both rechargeable hybrid versions have a charging capacity of 12.4 kWh and a power of 102 kW with a lithium-ion battery. Charging is done with a 3.7 kW single-phase charger as standard and an optional 7.4 kW single-phase charger. A full charge takes about 1 hour 55 minutes with a 7.4 kW Wall Box or a single-phase integrated charger, while a full charge takes about 3 hours and 50 minutes with a 3.7 kW charger. With a standard socket, a full charge takes approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes.
There is also a 3-cylinder 130 HP 1.2-liter PureTech internal combustion engine option. With its 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission and start & stop feature, this engine meets the Euro 6.4 emission norm. A fully electric version will also be offered in the future. The model, which has global targets, will be produced first in Mulhouse, France for the European market, and shortly afterwards at the Chengdu factory in China for the Chinese market.
